A few years old, but recently discovered by me, is this video for Star Guitar by the Chemical Brothers. It’s a very interesting video – take a close look at it and see if you notice it’s unique technique. For the spoiler, see Gizmodo who wrote about it today.

This may have been there for a while, but I just noticed it. The Toronto Star has a recipe archive and it looks to go back all the way to about 2006. It allows you to search by main ingredient, meal, cuisine, etc. It’s quite good. I find that Star recipes are usually very straightforward and well tested.

I use a news aggregator to get my news, mostly from RSS feeds. I noticed that for the last day or so, the Toronto Star feed was stuck with old news. It wasn’t being updated.

It dawned on me that the Toronto Star just did a website redesign. Sure enough, they changed the RSS feeds and disabled some of the older ones without notice.

The new feeds are listed on their website.

Toronto is a multicultural city. I remember reading a few years ago that by 2010 the “minority” groups that make up the population will actually total more than 50% of the city by 2010 – that’s just next year. The Toronto Star produced a map (pdf) that shows the concentration in ethnic groups and where they live. The full article gives more detail as to how this has been shifting over the last few years. The article based much of it’s work from “Evolution of Ethnic Enclaves in the Toronto Metropolitan Area” soon to be published in The Canadian Geographer.

A lot of my friends do not have a family doctor and they are not alone. The province introduced a new service this week to help people find family doctors. Called Health Care Connect, it’s a phone service that will use a nurse at a Community Care Access Centre to help them find a physician or nurse practitioner. The number is 1-800-445-1822.

Wow, what happened to the Toronto Star? Since they’ve laid off their web development staff the website has just gone downhill. Just today I went to the site and the weather is reporting 11C while the Weather Network and CityNews both report it as 18C. Their market indicators named “Today’s Markets” are showing yesterday’s closing numbers. And people are posting short, three sentence articles about what will be in tomorrow’s paper.

I used to use the Star’s website for the best Toronto news, but I think I will switch to CityNews.
