Facebook’s new privacy settings are a bit confusing. Now that wall post is treated as part of a “stream” each with it’s own privacy setting (blame Google+) it’s harder to turn your wall off or make it private. Here’s a few steps on how to do it:

1. First you need to change all your existing posts to be “friends only”. To do this, go to your “Privacy Settings” and select the “Limit the Audience for Past Posts”. This settings overrides any wall posts that are currently “Public” and changes it to “Friends Only”.

2. Secondly, you need to ensure that all new posts are friends only by default. On your “Privacy Settings” page choose the “Default Privacy” to “Friends”.

The new facebook profile page is detailed on their site. Many changes are happening. No good information on what information has privacy options vs. being shared without your consent. I’m sure this may rankle a few people. However, if you are like me, you deleted all the profile information ages ago during their last privacy fiasco.

Playing a Facebook game like Farmville or Mafia Wars? Prevent those apps from littering your friend’s feeds by blocking them.

  • Go to Privacy Settings > Applications and Websites.
  • For “Activity on Application and Games”, choose “Custom”
  • Select “Only Me”

OK, I admit it, I’m a Facebook addict. To me, it’s better than Twitter and allows me to keep in touch with a lot of people. They launched Facebook Lite today, a streamlined version (no apps!) that runs really quickly. I am tempted to use it more than the main site. To go back to the main site, just use regular Facebook.

It’s missing a few features, but they’re working on it. You can always revert to the normal site for more complicated features (and to ice that last gangster in mafia wars).

What happened to Facebook Poke? Noone uses it anymore. Did it really have any purpose but to remind people to check Facebook in it’s infancy?
