A year ago, Rogers Extreme and Rogers Express offered the same speed – 10MBps. Rather than paying the higher rate for no reason, I downgraded to Express. They finally updated their offerings, giving 15MBps for Extreme users but requiring a new DOCSIS 3.0 modem to get those speeds. Here is the results of the upgrade:

What’s a bit odd is how low the upload speed is. At 1MBps it is as promised by Rogers, but it pales in comparision on what I can get wirelessly via 3G on my iPhone:

Rogers has a huge problem, they’re running out of adjectives to brand their internet services. They have SIX cable internet offerings right now with their newest service called UltraHeavyExpressExtremePlusHighSpeed. It’s true, check their website.
The new UltraHeavyExpressExtremePlusHighSpeed service allows a theoretical 50mbps download and 2mbps upload speed.

I was looking at the Rogers Internet plans today and realized that both the $60 Extreme and $47 Express service are now 10Mbps. The only differences are upload speed (1Mbps vs. 0.5Mbps) and bandwidth cap (95GB vs. 60GB).
I’m not much of an uploader and I’ve never downloaded more than 60GB, so it was an easy way to save $156 a year.
