Most people haven’t really mentioned this, by the end of next year, the BMW M3 will not be sold. This is because the 3-series is due for a redesign and next fall the four door will debut and that usually ends the availability of the M3 (like 2006 when the last redesign became available).

However, replacing it is an M-version of the 1-series. Featuring the biturbo flat-six found in the 335is and z4 sdrive, wider rear track, aero improvements and much more. It’s showcased in the video below:

Inside Line wrote a pretty lengthy article about the newest BMW 535i.The car has been extremely popular, selling out at dealers everywhere.

In a glaring error on their part, they mentioned several times how the newest N55 engine used in the car received direct injection in this iteration. The fact is the N54, first introduced in the BMW 335i in the 2007 model year, already had direct injection. It had it when it was installed in the previous 5-series and the current 1-series. Some serious fact-checking needs to be done by the guys at Edmunds. With such a bad factual error, it puts the rest of the review in suspicion.

UPDATE:

Looks like Inside Line partially corrected the article (it still refers to DI for performance “improvements”). Here are the original offending quotes:

“Direct injection is also new to the engine and at least partially responsible for the 535i’s improved EPA fuel economy ratings, which rise from 17 city/26 highway in 2010 to 20 city/30 highway for 2011.”

“Certainly the only bit in the 2011 BMW 535i that is simpler is the engine – a new version of the 3.0-liter turbocharged mill that previously powered 1, 3 and 5 Series cars.”
