Heh - even “Macgyver” is affected by the recent stock selloff…

May not play properly outside US but it worked for me.

Ok, I’m not really obsessed with Old Navy, but I am obsessed with LIGHTS - and Old Navy used her music in four commercials:

LIGHTS - Drive My Soul (official music video)

LIGHTS launched her first “official” video online. Lately I’ve heard this track getting airplay on Virgin Radio and saw her plug her music on CP24 on the 25th. Her popularity is growing!

Her website: http://www.iamlights.com/

Her myspace: http://www.myspace.com/lightsnoise

Her video blog: http://www.youtube.com/LIGHTS

Note: Video changes to MySpace video because it was in better resolution.

LIGHTS is a local area singer/songwriter. My friend introduced me to her through this YouTube video. This simple video was not meant as a full music video, just a sample of her and her work. Still, it provides a nice rooftop view of Toronto - it was shot on a rooftop of a condo.

Being the pop music luddite I am, I’ve never heard of her before but her music was used on an Old Navy ad (which I haven’t seen) and used on the show Instant Star. Joshua Jackson’s new movie, “One Week”, at 2008 Toronto Film Festival also features one of her tracks.

This is not “Snow” (Aka “Hey Oh”) by the Red Hot Chili Peppers but one of their lesser known tracks from Stadium Arcadium. I first heard it and thought it was one of the best tracks they’ve put out in years.

*This is not the official video but a fanvid.

I watched the Russell Peters DVD last night, Outsourced. I’ve watched it before, but it still makes me laugh.

Just finished watching this movie and it was disappointing. So few little stories that went unexplored and just a big smashfest at the end that had you wondering why the hero even won at all. Skip this movie.

On another note, lots of traveling this month. The daily posts will not-be-so-daily for most of the month.

When I first moved to Toronto as a summer student for one of the country’s banks, I got to know the city through the eyes of one of the only channels I got using rabbit ears: CityTV. However, the forced sale of CityTV to Rogers has only brought worse and worse news to the station that defined the city.

First they lost their Queen St. location, arguably the heart of the city. However their new Yonge/Dundas location may be closer to the true heart - if it wasn’t located in a concrete wasteland surrounded by advertising. Someone please plant a big tree in that “park”.

Then they cancelled Silverman helps, despite the show’s host wanting to host one more year - his 20th - before he retired. Finally today they announced that “Speaker’s Corner” has also been axed.

What’s left is a TV channel that is just like all the others. The innovative features that made CityTV unique and saw it’s brand spread across Canada (and imitated outside the country) is now just another channel. I’m not surprised Rogers did not understand what they got. Nor am I surprised they moved so quickly to ruin it. They just never understood what it was like to live in the “City”.
