In the market for a four-door supercar? You can’t do better than the BMW M5. Now, there is a new M5 and with it an enticing base price of only $101,500. Compartively, the last M5 debuted at $115,000!

The price in the USA is $90,500 – far off from the $81,895 price in 2006. So the USA price has gone up $10,000 while the Canadian price has gone down by $15,000. Hooray for the Canadian Dollar!

These knives are available exclusively at Williams Sonoma. While I like them, they look a little over-the-top and the price is really out-of-this-world. I think much better Japanese blades can be had at places like Knife pr Tosho. Still, if you want a baller knife set, look no further:

Located at College and Palmerston, Woodlot is a new restaurant and bakery taking advantage of a wood-fired oven. Food is delicious but be warned, after dining inside you will smell like a campfire. I like the smell, but some will not.

We decided to share three appetizers, the Buffalo Mozzarella Crostini, Ember Grilled Heno’ the Woods Mushrooms and Cape Breton Snow Crab Salad. I found the mushrooms were my favorite, and came on a bed of veg and apple that was dressed really well. Still hungry, we shared the Buckwheat Tagliatelle which was VERY good – very savoury and rich. Although I didn’t like the use of walnuts, I thought another type of nut might’ve been a better choice. I think I might just be a walnut hater – don’t judge me.

Service was slightly uneven, we were asked twice for our drink order which did take quite a while to reach us. Additionally our additional order got a bit lost. However, someone was able to come and correct both mistakes graciously. The quality of food made up for it and the place was packed. I hope they are able to even out the service a bit better for future patrons.

Guu Sakabar is the second Guu location to open up in Toronto. It’s the start of a much bigger casual-asian explosion that I predict will take over the city soon. More Izakawa’s, noodle places, and others will soon pop up everywhere culminating in the opening of David Chang’s Momofuku restaurants in the Shangri-La.

Like the original Guu Izakawa, Sakabar is LOUD. It’s a party atmosphere and food is all tapas style. This location is larger but getting a seat without a wait is still difficult. We lucked out and got the last two seats available upon arriving.

The beef carpaccio and miso cod were just excellent. I can’t say how tasty and delicious they were – probably the best dishes I had in months. Both are pictured below.

We tried the pork dish from the daily specials. It was very savoury and tasty – served on a hotplate that came to our table sizzling away.

An unexpected dish was the pumpkin crochette. We didn’t order it at first but kept on seeing the dish being made and devoured by other tables. After asking what it was, we ordered it and tried it. It was so good! Pumpkin and egg is not a combination anyone would think is tasty but the sauce and the crunchy exterior brought everything together.

If this article is true, BMW should be worried. The run-flat tires on the last generation of vehicles (2005-2011) were horrible, causing all sorts of ride problems, noise problems and had high replacement costs.

Globe Earth appeared in the “cursed” location at Rosedale. I’ve watched many restaurants come and go with little fanfare or customers in that location. However they’ve managed to last quite a while and I got a chance to sample their brunch on a cold winter day last month.

Brunch is insane in this city, good brunch places often have lineups and hectic service. Thankfully Globe Earth was not full and the server was very attentive – enough to warrant a compliment from our table and he replied that he was new. Good job!

Being the curious glutton I am, I had the Swine and Dine, along with eggs it included homemade sausage, “rasher” bacon, pork belly, peameal, creton and crackling. I love on the menu that it specifically says “no salad” further making me grin at how unhealthy this dish is. Everything was quite tasty however the creton didn’t really impress me. It just didn’t have enough of a noticable taste for me.

Being a little while ago, I don’t remember what my brunch companion ordered, but I do recall she enjoyed it.
