After continuous problems with my Linksys routers, I have abandoned them completely. After my replacement cable modem came with wireless-N access I have trashed my Linksys router.
Linksys was my “go-to” brand for networking especially when wireless routers were new. Several of them operated flawlessly and I recommended them to friends. I skipped the wireless-G routers and held onto my Linksys wireless-B router for several years – convinced the 10MBps access was fine enough for the slow internet speeds at the time (1-2MBps on cable).
When wireless-N came out, I bought a new Linksys router, one equipped with gigabit ethernet and could publish a USB storage device plugged into it. Out of the box, it did not work. The replacement at the retailer also did not work. I had to send the unit into Linksys to replace before it got working. For the next couple of years wireless access was spotty, even with it’s vaunted two-band wireless-N capability.
When I upgraded my cable modem from Rogers, an SMC unit with built-in wireless access, I was surprised by how strong the wireless signal was, how flawlessly it operated, and how much faster the wireless transfers were. I’ll never buy a Linksys product again.

I normally use overpriced Apple stuff but I added a Linksys 610N and replaced the firmware with DD-WRT as this runs my whole home STRONGVPN connection. This way my machines get hulu, pandora, etc and my Apple TV 2 works awesome with my USA Netflix account!
way too many problems with linksys – i’ll never go back.
