After a really frustrating call with BMW, I decided to fix a broken light bulb on my own. The service advisor at BMW Toronto was adamant that replacing the a single light bulb required the removal of my front bumper. This is even after clarifying it was the halogen daytime running light, and not the HID “bixenon” lamp.

On the Internet are some great resources for shadetree mechanics. On Bimmerpost I found the type of bulb I needed (H8 Halogen) and links to a video of someone else doing the same install. The video shows both cornering lamp and DRL replacements:

I saw a sign showing that Pizzaiolo is opening up a north Bloor location across from the Toronto Reference Library. I thought this was odd for quite a few reasons, it’s only a few doors down from a very popular Pizza Pizza. Also one block further north is a Mamma’s Pizza. On the same west-side strip is Quizno’s, Craftburger and a Subway. What’s more interesting is there is already a Pizzaiolo one block south of Bloor!

This place better have some fantastic pizza to survive long enough to turn a profit.

hpenvy13-lg1Do these laptops look familar? They should, the design is almost entirely stolen from Apple’s Macbook and Macbook pro line. HP has leveraged the “Envy” brand from in-house gaming laptop maker Voodoo to market it’s new, sleek, aluminum/magnesium chassis laptops. Available in both 13″ and 15″ versions, these will probably be very hot sellers. With the slim (just 0.88″) 13″ for the portable market, and a Quad-core Core i7 processor in the 15″ for computing power, these two models will be on the top of everyone’s wishlist this Christmas.

They are not due to be available until October. Priced at $1699 USD for the Envy 13 and $1799 USD for the Envy 15. Canadian pricing is not available.

For years, Rogers has allowed users of their cable internet service to check their usage. Even more recently, they gave alerts to people as they neared their usage cap and about to be charged more.

Well, tracking your wireless data has now become easier. Rogers added this functionality to their website this week. If you have a data plan, definitely check this service out because it could save you a lot of money.

Better instructions to navigate to this page can be found at Boy Genius Reports.

Google Finance recently announced Google Investing Indexes. It’s an index based on keyword searches of the Google engine tied to an economic activity. For instance the Auto Buyers Index graphs the search terms “car, blue book, toyota, kelly book”.

What’s funny is how pervasive Yahoo Finance is. In the Google Finance and Insurance Index, “Yahoo” is one of the search terms. In the Google Investing Index, “Yahoo Finance” is used as a search term.

Yahoo still dominates the financial aggregation portals, with Google Finance lagging quite a bit. At least Google doesn’t try to hide this fact.

Lifehacker had a great summary article about how to access GMail when they are experiencing problems, such as earlier this week. The article goes into detail but there is a summary of links:

OK, I admit it, I’m a Facebook addict. To me, it’s better than Twitter and allows me to keep in touch with a lot of people. They launched Facebook Lite today, a streamlined version (no apps!) that runs really quickly. I am tempted to use it more than the main site. To go back to the main site, just use regular Facebook.

It’s missing a few features, but they’re working on it. You can always revert to the normal site for more complicated features (and to ice that last gangster in mafia wars).

In the lead up to the release of her full album, LIGHTS this weekend released a small EP of the first single, and also this video of an acoustic version.

“The Listening” Acoustic

Her full album comes out Sept 22!! Be sure to get it – a preview of all the tracks on her full album can be heard on iTunes.

Lyrics below as posted on her blog:

Please excuse me I’m not thinking clear
It must just be stress
But I likely shouldn’t be here
I’m such a mess

I never really ever know what to say
When I let my emotions get in the way
And I’m just trying to get us on the same page
I always get it better right after wards
When all the wrong impressions are said and heard
How come I can never get the right words
I need to convey, wish I could explain…

The things that I have to work out
I don’t feel right
What has come over me I’m about
To lose my mind

I never really ever know what to say
When I let my emotions get in the way
And I’m just trying to get us on the same page
I always get it better right after wards
When all the wrong impressions are said and heard
How come I can never get the right words
I need to convey, wish I could explain…

Can I let the trees do the talking, can I let the ground do the walking
Can I let the sky fill what’s missing in, can I let my mouth do the

I didn’t know this, but the City keeps a list of current film projects. The list is pretty accurate when I crossreferenced them with other sites. However, I think some names of films are codenames and this list only covers Metro Toronto – films in the GTA region are not on the list.
