I found this recipe on egullet and it’s quite a good one. The site includes lots of pictures of this process.
Main ingredients (middle right, clockwise):
- Beef about 3/4 lb
- 1 small onion
- 1 pack of fresh rich noodles, 2 lb (dry rice noodles also acceptable, soften in hot water first)
- 5 stalks of green onions
- 1/4 lb bean sprouts (mung bean sprouts)
- 1/8 lb yellow chive
Cut the beef into 1/8 inch slices.Marinate with sesame oil, chinese cooking wine, corn starch, light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, and ground white pepper.
Peel, trim and cut the onion into small wedges. Trim and cut the green onions into 1 to 2 inch pieces.
Use a small bowl, add 3 tsp of light soy sauce and 3 tsp of dark soy sauce. Mix well.
Use a pan/wok, set stove to high. Add 3 tblsp of cooking oil. Wait until oil is hot. Add marinated beef slices to velvet for a few minutes. Remove and drain the excess oil.
Clean and dry pan. Heat it over stove. Set stove to high. Add 4-5 tblsp of cooking oil. Wait until oil start fuming.
The following steps must be completed very quickly: Add the wedged onions and 1/2 portion of the green onions. Dash in 2 tsp of ShaoHsing wine. Immediately add the small bowl of light/dark soy sauce mix. The soy sauce will boil immediately.
Immediately add the rice noodles. Mix well and add the rest portion of the green onions. Mix again until the soy sauce spreads evenly over the rice noodles.
Return the velveted beef slices. Continue to mix well. Stir-fry for another minute or so, completed. Transfer the rice noodles to a serving plate.
A show in Japan pitted all four versions of the new Carrera against one another in 1/4 drag tests. These included the base Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S. While the 4S was marginally faster than the S, probably because of increased traction, both the S and 4S got times in the 11s! Video below:
This year, Honda introduced the CBR600RR C-ABS. C-ABS is their nomenclature for their anti-lock braking system, but it does a lot more than just prevent lockup of wheels during braking. At just 22 lbs, the ABS system would put the 600cc Honda at the same weight as their competitors without the ABS system – a boon for Honda having had the lowest weight in the category for this generation of bikes.
The C-ABS system is different than other ABS offerings on their touring bikes. The motorcycle.com review better explains the differences between the CBR’s “combined” system vs. the “linked” system in the Gold Wing. Suffice to say, this technology will probably make the bike safer without interfering with the sportiness that CBR’s are known for.
Honda is cautious about the orders of this model. The CBR is still available without ABS and they expect the majority of the sales to be non-ABS equipped. Still, as the technology advances and more competitors start introducing similar systems, the technology will proliferate fairly quickly. Honda is just the first in the sportbike ABS market, but won’t be the last.
In this video (which is in German) two aftermarket tuned R8′s go head-to-head. One is tuned by MTM, the other by Abt – both major players in the aftermarket tuning business for Audi’s (and other German makes).
I didn’t think it was possible, but Audi improved the R8. They added a new V10 engine, some body tweaks, and standard LED lighting. The result is in the video below:
Also with the launch of the D5000, Nikon also released a new lens: 10-24mm F3.5-4.5G ED. With the previous release of the 35mm f1.8 DX lens and now this wide angle, it seems that Nikon is focusing on lenses for the DX format with a lot of new product. Clearly Nikon is supporting their line of DX cameras with all these new lens options. Like the 35mm that came out last month, expect a lot of supply shortages of this lens when it becomes available.
Well, Nikon Europe has unveiled the new Nikon D5000 entry-level SLR. Adding Liveview and HD Video found in other Nikons, a new feature that others do not have is the vari-angle LCD monitor. This would be very useful as I found with my D90 that LiveView and HD Video all depend on looking at the screen at a very awkward angle – made worse by the fact that you normally don’t hold an SLR the same way you do a camcorder.
The North American announcements will follow today (it’s 12:03am).
The best place for flowers in the city is this row of flower shops at Avenue and Davenport. I don’t know how all of these places compete with essentially the same product and still survive, but somehow they all manage. Spring is here! Buy someone flowers:
