Rogers issued a press release today outlining the plans that go with the iPhone 3G. As expected, they are really expensive compared to the plans in the USA and the other parts of the world. What’s even more surprising that none of the plans come with unlimited data.

$60 gets you 150 minutes + unlimited Evening and Weekend
400 MB of data and 75 text messages

$75 gets you 300 minutes + unlimited Evening and Weekend
750 MB of data and 100 text messages

$100 gets you 600 minutes + unlimited Evening and Weekend
1 GB of data and 200 text messages

$115 gets you 800 minutes + unlimited Evening and Weekend
2 GB of data and 300 text messages

Canadian cell phone service providers still rank as “suck” compared to the USA. We will never see unlimited data plans.

yes, it’s the complete lack of competition

The question is… can I use my unlimited data Fido sim (and original city fido) in this V2 phone (the one I am using in my previously generation IPhone). And… what will a non subsidized handset cost?

  4. jason says:

I have a feeling they will not allow the iPhone to be purchased without a subsidy. They’ll milk everyone into 3 month plans at these crazy prices and then only offer a subsidy-free phone after sales begin to drop.

    Rogers fails. Again.

I do agree with the sentiment here - our phone plans are damn expensive! I’m actually not that trouble about the iPhone in terms of unlimited data. I’m a pretty heavy user for data and I don’t use more than 200 MB of data on most months. I think what’s more troublesome is the price point - $60 is really stiff for a starting plan. I blog more about it on my own blog.

So.. Buy the $300 version.. what would the penalty to break the contract? maybe $300-400?.. Sure beats the $3500+ 3 year lock-in commitment. I already have an EVDO exprescard unlimited for my MBP so its not about the data limits (plus my unlimited sim in my iphone). plus… gprs isnt that bad on the iphone as long as your not watching utube all day… I just want the GPS and more memory… I am sure there will be a 32 gig version within 3-4 months too…

    Just read this on howardforums:

Cost of cancelling iPhone contract= 400.00

  9. Jameel Khan says:

Apparently you can ‘buy’ the iPhone form Rogers for $720 without contract… for 8 gig… hahahaha

This is even worse than the $600 i paid on craigslist for my Gen1 8gig. We will see what the ‘other’ prices this marketing firm has been talking about. Rogers is getting lots of heat in international and local media about the rates.
