If you’re in the market for a 911, wait a few months. In September the new 2009 models will be arriving in dealers and they arrive with substantial changes – engines, transmissions and lighting among others. These 911′s come with the seemingly impossible bonus of more power and better fuel economy.
Both models come with direct fuel injection which has been used on a few new cars in the past 3-4 years. This technology has raised the power of the Carrera to 345hp (from 325) and the Carrera S to 385hp (from 355). Also available is a new double-clutch gearbox which replaces the automatics in both models. The new gearbox does not suffer from parasitic losses in the gearbox which makes it as fuel efficient as a manual transmission. Expect a high price premium for the new gearbox.
On the outside of the car, new front and rear fascias are paired with LED daytime running lights and LED rear lights. Bi-xenons are not standard on both models and have dynamic bending – they turn as you turn a corner for better illumination.
